Sysdig Debuts Monitoring Solution for Kubernetes

Sysdig, a start-up offering container-native visibility, announced support for Kubernetes, which is the open source container orchestration tool originally created by Google. The company said its Sysdig Cloud is first and only monitoring solution to offer complete visibility into Kubernetes environments. Open source system exploration tool, sysdig, has also added native support for Kubernetes, further building on its Docker troubleshooting capabilities.

Kubernetes is rapidly becoming the most popular framework on which to deploy microservice-oriented applications in Docker containers. The idea is to simplify the deployment of Docker and clusters of microservices at scale. Kubernetes, like many orchestration tools, deploys applications by distributing interconnected Docker containers across a cluster of shared physical resources.

Sysdig Cloud’s container-native monitoring for Kubernetes includes key features such as:

  • Container-native monitoring with ContainerVision: Sysdig’s ContainerVision offers deep, application-level visibility into Kubernetes and Docker containers, while respecting the independence and isolation of each container.
  • Kubernetes metadata integration: Kubernetes translates microservices into “pods”, “services”, “replication controllers”, and “namespaces”. Sysdig Cloud now understands the full context of your Kubernetes system, and offers alerts and dashboards that correlate this metadata directly with all your system, network, application, and infrastructure data.
  • Zero configuration deployment: Just drop the Sysdig Cloud container into your Kubernetes environment. ContainerVision automatically detects every application running in every other container in your infrastructure and starts streaming back a stunning level a detail in real time.

The first Kubecon conference is being held this week in San Francisco.

Sysdig Delivers Monitoring for Amazon’s EC2 Container Service

Sysdig, a start-up based in San Francisco, is now providing "container native" monitoring for Amazon’s EC2 Container Service (ECS).

The service is delivered in Sysdig Cloud, which is a monitoring solution built from the ground up to support microservices and containers.

Sysdig said it is able to provide deep, application-level visibility into ECS containers, while respecting the independence and isolation of each container. Sysdig Cloud now offers alerts and dashboards that integrate tasks and other ECS tags and metadata directly with all the hundreds of metrics pulled from the customer's environment.

“Like many leaders in the market, Amazon continues to invest heavily in a container driven future for cloud computing. Here at Sysdig, we’re excited to support this vision and the thousands of companies making the move to containers and microservices,” said Loris Degioanni, CEO and Founder of Sysdig. “No other monitoring technology can come close to the level of visibility into AWS and ECS that Sysdig can offer with ContainerVision.”

Sysdig Targets Container-Native Monitoring

Sysdig, a start-up based in San Francisco, announced the general availability of its “container-native” monitoring solution along with $10.7 million in Series A venture funding.

Sysdig, which describes itself as "the container visibility company," has developed the first monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting platform specializing in container visibility. The Sysdig Cloud performance management solution uses patent-pending "ContainerVision" technology" to monitor the entire architecture using its own stand-alone container, with zero configuration.  This enables deep visibility into every other service running in the environment. In other words, Sysdig Cloud is monitoring as a microservice. It is available as software as a service.

“Containers are by their very nature dynamic, isolated, lightweight, and portable,” said Loris Degioanni, CEO and founder of Sysdig. “These characteristics have put containers at the heart of the current revolution from monolithic apps to microservices. But these same characteristics also make containers impractical to monitor with traditional, agent-based methods. What the market is demanding now is a new, ‘container-native’ performance management approach that both respects the core principles of containers and enables their core benefits.”

The recent funding round was led by Accel and Bain Capital Ventures (BCV).  This latest round of financing brings Sysdig’s total funding to date to $13 million, including a previously undisclosed $2.3 million seed funding round led by BCV in June 2013.

  • Sysdig is headed by Loris Degioanni (founder and CEO), who was instrumental in the creation of WinPcap and Wireshark.
