NETGEAR cites continuing supply chain constraints, freight costs

NETGEAR reported second quarter 2021 net revenue of $308.8 million, an increase of 10.3% from the comparable prior year quarter. Second quarter 2021 non-GAAP net income per diluted share of $0.66, as compared to $0.54 in the comparable prior year quarter.

Patrick Lo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NETGEAR, commented, “Second quarter revenue came in at $308.8 million, representing 10.3% topline growth year over year. Worldwide supply chain constraints, however, such as component shortages, increased freight costs and transit times, and factory closures due to COVID-19, led to a perfect storm of factors that held back our revenue number and saw us fall short of our operating margin goals. As we continue to navigate through this rapidly changing environment, our long-term thesis that premium WiFi will drive the growth of the consumer networking market and our service subscriber base remains intact. With vaccination rates rising and businesses reopening, work from anywhere and hybrid work models are here to stay and we anticipate that the U.S. consumer networking market will grow 20% above pre-pandemic levels in the second half of this year. Meanwhile, demand for our SMB products rebounded strongly in the second quarter as businesses reopened post-COVID. Despite supply constraints, SMB net revenue grew approximately 58% year over year.”

NETGEAR's Q1 revenue soars to $317.9 million, up 38.3% yoy

NETGEAR reported Q1 2021 net revenue of $317.9 million, an increase of 38.3% from the comparable prior year quarter. First quarter 2021 GAAP net income per diluted share of $0.72, as compared to net loss per diluted share of $0.14 in the comparable prior year quarter. First quarter 2021 non-GAAP net income per diluted share of $0.99, as compared to $0.21 in the comparable prior year quarter.

Patrick Lo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NETGEAR, commented, “With both businesses performing well, Q1 marks a strong beginning to the year for us. The NETGEAR team again navigated the ongoing challenges in the supply chain to deliver strong revenue growth. Our revenue came in at $317.9 million for year over year growth of 38.3%, and we delivered record non-GAAP operating profit of $42.3 million, a non-GAAP operating margin of 13.3%. The higher than anticipated demand for SMB products propelled us over the high end of our topline guidance range. Non-GAAP operating margin significantly exceeded expectations, buoyed by a higher mix of SMB and higher margin e-commerce revenue as well as lower air freight expense.”

Mr. Lo continued, “Our outstanding first quarter was powered by strong demand across both of our businesses. Our SMB business benefited from the reopening of economies worldwide, notching strong sequential growth of 8.5% and year over year growth of 17.9%. Our CHP business again saw strong growth year on year, led by the premium segment, and we continue to hold a leading market share position in this fast growing, highly lucrative segment. This allowed us to gain share globally, and most notably we saw our US market share in consumer WiFi climb two points in the first quarter. All of this has translated into continued success in our efforts to grow our recurring subscription services business, as we added 44,000 subscribers, exiting the quarter with 481,000, and keeping us on track to reach our goal of 650,000 subscribers by the end of the year.”

NETGEAR's Q3 sales leap 42% to $378 million

NETGEAR reported Q3 net revenue of $378.1 million, an increase of 42.2% from the comparable prior year quarter. Third quarter 2020 non-GAAP net income per diluted share amounted to $1.13, as compared to $0.65 in the comparable prior year quarter.

Patrick Lo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NETGEAR, commented, “The robust demand for WiFi that reliably covers the entire household continued in Q3 and signs point to this trend continuing well into next year. We entered the quarter sharply focused on delivering to this demand and our team worked tightly with our supply chain and retail partners to produce outstanding results. In Q3 we grew revenue 42% year over year to $378 million. With the elevated revenue level unlocking leverage in the business, the result was record earnings per share. As the pandemic persists, it is clear that families are adapting their lives to accommodate the need to pursue more of their daily activities virtually from home. This “more from home” transition is stretching well beyond work and school to include movie premieres, doctor visits, grocery shopping, fitness classes and visiting loved ones, and they now all require a whole home, fast and reliable WiFi connection. ”

Mr. Lo continued, “This trend naturally buoys the CHP side of the business, where our growth is strong across wireless routers and mesh systems and mobile hot spots. We continued to adapt our SMB offerings in Q3 to drive more sophisticated home office setups, including low port count switches and commercial grade WiFi, generating 23% sequential growth. In Q3 we added seventy six thousand subscribers for a total of three hundred and sixty nine thousand, and have already exceeded our full year goal of doubling our subscribers from the end of last year. NETGEAR: booming demand for home network upgrades started in March

Consumers in the U.S. rushed to upgrade their home office set-ups beginning in March.

NETGEAR reported Q2 rvenue of $280.1 million, an increase of 21.3% from the comparable prior year quarter. Second quarter 2020 GAAP operating income was $8.9 million, or 3.2% of net revenue, as compared to operating income of $0.3 million, or 0.1% of net revenue, in the comparable prior year quarter.

"Patrick Lo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NETGEAR, commented, “The NETGEAR team navigated challenging conditions to accommodate the robust end demand we saw during the quarter, all while working remotely. Driven by the CHP side of the business, we achieved revenue growth of 21% and more than doubled our operating profit over the prior year. The surge in demand that began in March continued throughout the entire quarter and resulted in strong growth in both the retail and service provider channels for the CHP business. The work-from-home transition taking place worldwide is driving the adoption of high performance WiFi at home as an indispensable necessity and, as the leader in WiFi 6 technology, we stand well positioned to enable this new reality. In conjunction with the increased penetration of high-end WiFi 6 mesh systems and routers into the market, we accelerated the acquisition of new service subscribers, particularly in cybersecurity protection and parental control services, growing our paid subscriber base 28% sequentially and putting us on a trajectory to exceed our goal of doubling our subscriber count in 2020.”

Mr. Lo continued, “As many employees continue to work from home today, companies are growing increasingly confident that their workforce can be productive remotely and are beginning to measure the positive aspects of remote work. This is driving a consensus that remote work will be a larger part of the landscape even as the pandemic eventually eases. As a result, we see strong demand for high performance home WiFi continuing to fuel our revenue growth at least through the rest of this year. While providing an unexpected tailwind for CHP, the pandemic has at the same time created a headwind for SMB."

NETGEAR Nighthawk X8 Wi-Fi Home Router Hits 5.3 Gbps

NETGEAR introduced its latests Nighthawk X8 AC5300 Smart WiFi Router (R8500) delivers a blistering combined speed of 5.3Gbps (1000 Mbps + 2166 Mbps +2166 Mbps) using Wave 2 803.11ac technology-- a new record for a home router.

The unit is powered by a 1.4GHz dual core processor, patent-pending Active Antennas to boost range, and three Wi-Fi bands with quad-streams.  It also uses 1024 QAM modulation and and MU-MIMO technology. It boasts a total of eight antennas, four internal and four patent-pending external Active Antennas. Unlike typical antennas that simply relay the Wi-Fi signal received from your devices to the router, Active Antennas amplify the Wi-Fi signal within the external antenna itself. This compensates for the low power of Wi-Fi devices to provide a more symmetrical connection for both receiving and sending wireless signals, which contributes to improving overall range and speed at long range.

In addition, the Nighthawk X8 offers a unique Dynamic QoS prioritization capability that recognizes each individual application and the device it is running on, and prioritizes their network traffic accordingly. The unit also provides a port aggregation capability (also known as “port trunking”). The router has six Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, the largest number available on a mainstream home router. Two of these ports can be aggregated to double the gigabit connection to a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device — such as all current NETGEAR ReadyNAS models with two Ethernet ports — to support 4K HD streaming, faster backups, and faster file transfers.

It has an MSRP of $400.

NETGEAR Delivers Triband WiFi Router Powered by Broadcom

NETGEAR introduced its new Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band WiFi Router (R8000)-- the first tri-band WiFi router based on the new Broadcom 5G WiFi XStream platform.

The WiFi router uses six high-performance antennas and three network bands, one 2.4GHz and two 5GHz, to deliver a combined WiFi speed of up to 3.2 Gbps (1300+1300+600 Mbps) -- the fastest to date. It balances the network load to ensure the best WiFi performance for each device and deliver the maximum wireless range.

The Nighthawk X6 is powered by a 1GHz dual core processor with three additional offload processors. It supports NETGEAR Beamforming, a smart, signal-focusing technology that improves WiFi connections by locking onto a wireless device on the network and pinpointing WiFi signals directly at the device.

In a typical dual band router, for example, the video streamer and the Internet gamer have to effectively "time-share" the 5GHz band. With the Nighthawk X6 Tri-Band Router, however, video streaming and Internet gaming traffic can each operate on separate 5GHz bands so that each of them gets double the speed of a dual band router.

"Home networks are being weighed down by an exploding number of WiFi devices demanding bandwidth for more and more video content," said Sandeep Harpalani, NETGEAR's director of product marketing for Retail Network Products. "Nighthawk X6 solves these issues by not only providing more WiFi bandwidth but also segmenting slower and faster devices across different WiFi bands, and balancing the number of devices in each band to deliver the best-in-class experience for streaming, sharing and gaming."

Broadcom noted that the average household is expected to own roughly 50 Internet-connected devices by 2022, up from approximately 10 today. Its 5G WiFi XStream Platform features five core "Penta Core" central processing unit (CPU) to maximize network capacity. SmartConnect software is used to ensure each Wi-Fi device operates on best frequency band. The platform automatically separates coexisting 802.11n and 802.11ac Wi-Fi devices into distinct frequencies.

NETGEAR Posts Lower Sales for Q1, Cites Product Transition Issues

NETGEAR reported Q1 net sales of $293.4 million, as compared to $325.6 million for the first quarter ended April 1, 2012, and $310.4 million in the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2012.  Net income  (GAAP) was $15.3 million, or $0.39 per diluted share.  This compares to GAAP net income of $25.1 million, or $0.65 per diluted share, for the first quarter of 2012, and GAAP net income of $16.1 million, or $0.41 per diluted share, in the fourth quarter of 2012. Gross margin on a non-GAAP basis in the first quarter of 2013 was 30.5%, as compared to 31.0% in the year ago comparable quarter, and 30.0% in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Patrick Lo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NETGEAR commented, "The lower than expected operating margin in the first quarter was driven by product mix, primarily due to difficulties in the transition to our new ReadyNAS line of products. The transition occurred late in the quarter and difficulty securing components and some last minute bug fixes led to unanticipated delays. This marked the first time we completely replaced an entire line of products, which involved obsoleting ten models and replacing them with seven brand new models. The execution was much harder than anticipated and we learned a valuable lesson in engineering and manufacturing planning. The good news is that our supply is now in full swing and customer feedback on the new product line has been very positive."

"We continue to see large market opportunities created by the ever expanding access to high speed Internet connectivity among consumers and businesses.  We are very focused today on building our product portfolios for intermediate and long term growth in all three of our business units. In retail, we continue to gain traction with the 11ac upgrade cycle and we are gaining share in the Smart Home space, specifically with our Internet video streaming solutions. In our Commercial Business Unit, the launches of the new ReadyNAS and 10GBaseT switches in the first quarter were received enthusiastically by the market, positioning us for growth in the months and years ahead. And in our Service Provider Business Unit, we introduced our first LTE gateway into the North American fixed mobile data market and have attracted interest from multiple service providers."

NETGEAR Expects Q1 Revenue of $290-295 Million

NETGEAR expects its Q1 revenue to be in the range of $290 million to $295 million, which is an update to the previously estimated range, of $290 million to $305 million provided on February 12, 2013. GAAP operating margin for the first quarter to be in the range of 7.5% to 8%, and GAAP earnings per diluted share are expected to be between $0.35 and $0.39.

"During the first quarter, we experienced difficulty in the transitioning of our ReadyNAS line, which caused shipments to be lower than demand from our channel partners.  We are planning for a full recovery of supply for the second quarter onwards.  Lower than planned shipments of the new ReadyNAS resulted in an unfavorable mix of products shipped, which negatively impacted our gross margins," commented Patrick Lo, Chairman and CEO of NETGEAR.
