GigOptix Raises $15 Million for Potential Acquisitions

GigOptix closed on its previously announced public offering of 9,218,000 newly issued shares of common stock at a price to the public of $1.70 per share. The net proceeds to the company from the offering were approximately $14.73 million after underwriting discounts and commissions. In addition, certain officers and directors as selling stockholders sold 282,000 shares of previously issued shares of common stock in the underwritten public offering under an effective equity incentive plan registration statement on file with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Company is receiving none of the proceeds from the sale of shares by the selling stockholders.

Net proceeds will be used for potential acquisitions for strategic growth, including the acquisition of critical technologies and scalable businesses.

GigOptix Samples its 3rd Gen 100Gbps Ethernet Chipset

GigOptix announced its 3rd generation chipset for 100Gbps Ethernet datacenter and cloud computing applications.

The HXT8204 28Gbps 4 channel VCSEL driver array and HXR8204 28Gbps trans-impedance amplifier (TIA) receiver array enable the next generation of lower power 100Gbps Ethernet SR4 module and Active Optical Cable (AOC) solutions.

The HXR8204 four channel receiver with integrated TIA provides 60uAPP input sensitivity at 28Gbps with 10-12 Bit Error Rate (BER), AGC and ATC, and a limiting post amplifier stage. The HXT8204 four channel VCSEL driver supports modulation and average VCSEL currents up to 10mA with a dedicated BURNIN capability up to 15mA average current. The 1MHz I2C interface enables full control of all driver functions including input equalization, output peaking and peaking duration, Signal Detect and Squelch, channel polarity inversion, diagnostics such as average current and temperature monitoring as wells as user maskable Interrupts and VCSEL voltage supervisory functions.

GigOptix Releases 32G Quad Channel Linear Modulator Driver

GigOptix announced its newest linear quad-channel modulator driver, the GX62476, for low-power coherent metro applications.

The device is a quad-channel, 32Gbps solution offering the lowest power dissipation of less than 1.1W/channel at a 5VPP swing using 5V supply voltage and 0.75W/channel at a 3VPP swing using a 3.3V supply voltage. The linear driver is optimized for use with available low drive voltage Lithium Niobate and Indium Phosphide optical modulators, requiring single ended drive to provide the industry’s lowest power consumption with the best linearity solution in a small form factor SMT package for coherent CFP and CFP2 modules. Sampling is underway.

GigOptix to Acquire Tahoe RF Semiconductor

GigOptix agreed to acquire all of the assets of Tahoe RF Semiconductor in an all-cash deal. Financial terms were not disclosed. All of Tahoe RF’s team of engineers will become employees of GigOptix.

Tahoe RF Semiconductor developed RF/analog RFICs, IPs, and fully integrated systems and subsystems on a chip. It has an extensive IP library, including radio frequency front-ends, low-power transmitters, direct conversion receivers, low noise amplifiers, and fractional-N frequency synthesizers, as well as automatic gain control and RF receiver patents.

E-Band radios shipments by GigOptix are expected to grow to 6,000 per month with total shipments in 2014 in excess of 50,000 radios, driven by the deployment of LTE cellular infrastructure in support of the ever growing demand for mobile data for smartphones. The deployment of small cells, addressed by V-Band devices, 60GHz band, is expected to be one order of magnitude greater than regular cells in urban areas and the demand for V-band radios is expected to accelerate in the next two years with volumes at much higher than E-Band.

GigOptix Raises $11.8 million in New Share Offering

GigOptix announced the pricing of its underwritten public offering of an aggregate of 8,325,000 newly issued shares of common stock at a price of $1.42 per share. The company expects to receive gross proceeds of $11.8 million, before deducting underwriting discounts and other estimated offering expenses.

GigOptix Confirms Sole Supplier Status for 40G Supply Contract

GigOptix has become the sole long reach (LR) transimpedance amplifier (TIA) supplier for one of the largest suppliers for fast growing 40 Gbps QSFP+ LR transceivers.

GigOptix said this new supply partnership is with one of the world's largest suppliers of optical communication components and subsystems.  Financial terms were not disclosed.

GigOptix Develops Parallel Optical for Consumer Electronics

GigOptix announced an expansion from the datacom market into optical links for consumer electronics.

The company is positioning its parallel optical devices for use in embedded active optical cables (AOCs), pluggables and optical backplanes targeting high speed optical data links for consumer electronics connectivity and applications, such as:

1. Tablets, ultrabooks, and smartphones using the highest video and display resolution

2. 4K/8K high resolution video capture and multi-link transfer for video recording and consumer TVs in the living room and in studios

3. High definition video broadcast links for end points with reaches of greater than 100 meters

4. High speed applications used in 2D and 3D security and safety systems, gesture recognition and motion tracking

GigOptix confirmed that its parallel chipsets are used by a global electronics OEM to enable full production of 4K high definition video capture and transfer in several of its consumer products.  Specifically, GigOptix 4-channel parallel devices were used in 40 Gbps active cable transfer rates to support increased video frame rates and HD 3D imaging.

“GigOptix optical driver and receiver technology is moving towards high volume applications with the integration of our chipsets in applications such as 4K video systems. System designers are migrating to our parallel chipsets for consumer applications as they face increased data rate and signal integrity challenges with copper interconnects and copper ribbon cables,” said Dr. Raluca Dinu, General Manager and Vice President of the Optics Product Line at GigOptix.
