Etisalat leverages Ciena's Blue Planet for DWDM orchestration

Etisalat is using software from Blue Planet, a division of Ciena, for end-to-end multi-vendor DWDM Transport network orchestration in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.

The Blue Planet software has been designed to support Etisalat’s specific intelligent automation requirements and has been implemented in close collaboration with Etisalat. The companies cite substantial efficiency gains achieved via the Blue Planet Multi Domain Service Orchestration (MDSO) at the Transport DWDM Network level, which is integrated with Etisalat’s existing OSS inventory and automation systems to execute closed loop automation. Blue Planet also provides automated fiber diversity by integrating with a GIS system, while orchestrating service provisioning across the multi-vendor and multi-domain WDM network. Additionally, the Blue Planet software will support Etisalat to dynamically tune and adjust Bandwidth on Demand (BoD), enabling its customers to quickly self-provision network resources whenever needed.

Rick Hamilton, Senior Vice President, Blue Planet, a division of Ciena, said: “Across the globe, operators are using automation to create networks that can handle the ever-changing expectations of their users and Etisalat is at the forefront of that movement. Our Blue Planet software will support this network transformation to accelerate service delivery.”

Etisalat selects NEC/Netcracker's NaaS for vCPE

Etisalat has selected NEC/Netcracker's Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) to deploy a virtual customer premises equipment (vCPE) solution for enterprises.

Specifically, Etisalat is using NEC/Netcracker's full-stack Network-as-a-Service solution comprised with Self-Service Portals, Service Orchestration and MANO offerings. The initial service includes security virtual network functions selected from NEC/Netcracker's Ecosystem 2.0 marketplace.

The deployment is part of the service provider's larger virtualization initiative and builds on its recent deployment of the NaaS platform for residential vCPE.

"Using virtualization to drive more sophisticated functionality to our business customers will play a major role in enabling their evolution into digital enterprises, allowing them to open new revenue streams by offering more diverse services," said Esmaeel Alhammadi, Senior Vice President of Network Development at Etisalat. "We selected NEC/Netcracker's NaaS solution for our large-scale virtualization program because of its ability to support both residential and enterprise transformation."

Etisalat UAE Tests Virtual CPE with NEC/NetCracker

Etisalat UAE completed a series of virtual customer-premises equipment (vCPE) trials in partnership with NEC and NetCracker.

The proof of concept (PoC) validated the NEC/NetCracker vCPE solution’s ability to move highly complex IP and connectivity functionality from end-user gateways to Etisalat’s data center, which will reduce complexity for residential customers and provide them with more control over services. Etisalat’s deployment of the vCPE solution will enable it to experience a number of critical advantages, including the ability to provide next-generation connectivity without deploying highly complicated equipment at customer locations, resulting in reduced costs and fewer truck rolls.

NEC and NetCracker demonstrated several highly sophisticated use cases for Etisalat, including the ability to let customers personalize device- and subscriber-specific usage controls through an easy-to-use self-service portal. NEC and NetCracker also showed how customers can extend their LAN to enable cloud-based L2 services and content, as well as the vCPE solution’s ability to deploy virtual firewalls.

“By implementing the NEC/NetCracker vCPE solution, Etisalat can provide customers with access to a diverse set of services and capabilities through a self-care portal. The vCPE solution will also help Etisalat enable IPv6-based Internet connectivity without the need for any complex on-site processes,” said Noboru Takahashi, President & CEO at NEC in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
