Cox Business acquires Rapidscale for managed cloud offerings

Cox Business has acquired RapidScale, a leading managed and hybrid managed cloud services provider. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition combines Cox Business' transport and connectivity services with RapidScale's managed and hybrid managed cloud offerings.

RapidScale, which is based in Irvine, California, offers a range of cloud services, including CloudServer, CloudDesktop, CloudOffice, CloudMail, CloudRecovery, CloudApp, and SD-WAN. The company was established in 2010 and is headed by co-founder Randy Jeter.

Cox Business, which generates more than $2 billion in annual revenue., said its newly strengthened connected cloud platform will help businesses improve productivity and reduce IT expenditures.

"Businesses today need a true technology partner to deliver innovation that helps them transform operations, better engage with customers and remain competitive," said Steve Rowley, executive vice president, Cox Business. "Adding RapidScale to the Cox family, grows our business in a strategic manner by improving our cloud platform and enhances our value to business customers, regardless of size or vertical market."

Sprint and Cox settle their differences and form alliance

Sprint and Cox Communications reached a settlement in a patent dispute and announced a new multi-year business alliance.

Under the agreement, Sprint will leverage Cox’s broadband infrastructure to accelerate the densification of the Sprint network while simultaneously increasing the efficiency of its macro backhaul and small cell deployment. Additionally, the agreement will increase and strengthen other business ties between the two companies.

Sprint has a number of initiatives underway to densify its network to enhance performance and improve the customer experience. Sprint’s Densification and Optimization toolkit includes a variety of solutions from traditional macro towers to small cells including Sprint Magic Box, airpoles, strand mounts and repeaters. Through this agreement with Cox, Sprint will significantly accelerate deployment of that toolkit throughout Cox’s national footprint.

"This is another opportunity to work with a strategic partner to accelerate our densification plans to improve our network performance and experience for Sprint customers throughout Cox’s national territory," said Sprint’s Chief Technology Officer John Saw. Cox: Gig service now across 40% of its footprint

Cox Communications is reporting that Gigabit Internet service is now available to 40 percent of customers across its network footprint.  The gigabit performance is enabled by deployment of DOCSIS 3.1.

Cox says it is on plan to reach nearly all customers within the next two years.

Cox is also powering all the wired and wireless infrastructure today at the Consumer Electronics Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This includes 2,100 WiFi access points, redundant 10 gigabit backbone internet connections and a distributed antenna system (DAS) equivalent to 14 cell towers inside the convention center. At CES 2017, more than 6.4 terabytes of data crossed the Las Vegas Convention Center WiFi network via 200,000 connected devices. Cox also supports the 15-screen digital signage network within the Convention Center facility, including two new 40-foot LED screens in the concourse, and creates and manages the displayed content.

Cox noted that it has invested more than $15 billion in infrastructure upgrades over the past 10 years and that it plans to invest at least $10 billion over the next five years, with a focus on enhancing residential and business customers' experience.

Cox Launches Gigabit Internet Service in OK

Cox Communications launched its gigabit Internet service for residential customers in Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

Cox is deploying residential gigabit Internet speeds to new developments across Oklahoma City and Tulsa and in Cox locations across the country. The company has already launched G1GABLAST service in 10 states and will have gigabit speeds in all of its markets by the end of 2016. Cox has offered gigabit speeds to businesses for more than 10 years.

Cox Acquires Trapollo for Home Telehealth

Cox Communications has acquired Trapollo, a provider of managed services that enable healthcare providers, home health agencies and insurers to deploy telehealth and remote health monitoring solutions.   Financial terms were not disclosed.

Trapollo, which is based in Sterling, Virginia, integrates remote health monitoring solutions for chronic disease management, independent living, and employer health and wellness programs.

Cox Launches its First Gigabit Home Service in SoCal

Cox Communications has launched its first 1 gigabit residential Internet service at the new Park Place Apartment Homes in Irvine, California.

Cox is the first in Southern California with residential Internet service.

Earlier this year, Cox Communications announced that it would bring 1 gigabit speeds to residential customers in all of its markets by the end of 2016. The company has been deploying gigabit speeds to businesses for more than 10 years, and launched gigabit speeds to residential customers in Phoenix in October.

“Cox already offers the fastest residential Internet in Orange County, and with the launch at Park Place Apartment Homes, we’re the first provider in Southern California to offer 1 gigabit speeds to residential customers,” said Dave Bialis, Senior Vice President and Region Manager for Cox Communications in California. “As technology continues to advance and change how consumers use broadband, Cox will be well positioned to serve our customers in the future.”

Cox Communications is preparing to launch its gigabit internet service for residential customers in Phoenix later this month.

The service will be marketed under the brand name “G1GABLAST.”

“We are excited to deliver the choice of gigabit speeds to our customers,”said Cox Communications President Pat Esser. “Coupled with our 2,300 employees in the Valley and more than 20,000 nationwide, our latest investments and the deployment of the fastest speeds available are powering economic growth and development for businesses and residents of the communities we serve.”

G1GABLAST will be available in the Phoenix market for $69.99 per month when combined with Cox’s most popular service bundles.

Cox Business Partners with ViaWest for Colocation, Cloud

Cox Business announced a strategic partnership with ViaWest covering colocation and cloud services  in Las Vegas, Phoenix and Southern California markets.

Cox Business will provide secure fiber network connectivity matched with ViaWest's colocation and cloud infrastructure solutions.

Earlier this year, ViaWest opened its 110,000 square foot data center in Las Vegas which earned the colocation industry's first Tier IV design certification in North America.  ViaWest plans to open its 90,000 square foot enterprise-class, multi-tenant data center facility in Phoenix early in 2014 with Cox Enterprises as its anchor tenant.
