6WIND, Advantech and Cloudify demo vRouter for White Box Networking

At this week's Mobile World Congress, 6WIND is demonstrating high-performance vRouter use cases for white box networking with partners Advantech and Cloudify.

The demo infrastructure includes:
  • vRouter: 6WIND Turbo Router and Turbo IPsec are routing and IPsec VPN software network appliances to be deployed in bare metal environments or as Virtual Machines (VMs) on COTS servers with licenses for 1 – 100G throughput in a single software instance.
  • COTS Server: Advantech's SKY-8101 offers an innovative white box networking hardware infrastructure in a short depth, 1RU single-socket Intel Xeon Scalable Processor server with a wide choice of GbE, 10GbE & 40GbE connectivity. 6WIND's vRouter software appliances are deployed as VMs and scale linearly with the assigned processor cores.
  • Management & Orchestration: Cloudify Manager is serving the VNF Manager and NFV Orchestrator functions for the 6WIND vRouter. 6WIND's virtual appliances are instantiated on OpenStack, and OSPF routing and IPsec VPN tunnels are configured, deployed and orchestrated by Cloudify Manager with TOSCA based templates. The solution is then monitored by Grafana out of the box or any other pluggable monitoring platform of choice.

"The future of networking is high-performance software on white box servers, just as we've already seen with examples such as cell phones and computers," said Eric Carm├Ęs, Founder and CEO of 6WIND. "The combination of 6WIND, Advantech and Cloudify brings the promise of white box networking with a ready-to-use vRouter that can displace expensive networking hardware to save Network Operator budgets today."

"Universal CPE has successfully disrupted the customer edge with cost-saving SD-WAN and VNF rollouts by service providers around the globe," said Paul Stevens, Marketing Director, Advantech Networks and Communications Group. "In the same vein, we expect this next wave of white box solutions to revolutionize the Provider Edge."

"Building an ecosystem of interoperability is the only way to open up a market that has been a black box of closed technology to date," said Sebastian Grabski, Solution Architect at Cloudify. "Cloudify's goal through this partnership is to achieve both openness & interoperability, as well as greater flexibility. Through open source and open standards with TOSCA - it is now possible for organizations to build best of breed networking stacks with cutting edge technology like 6WIND & Advantech, with VNF management and orchestration across clouds and environments more rapidly and economically."

Metaswitch and Cloudify partner of NFV automation

Metaswitch and Cloudify are partnering to automate NFV management and orchestration (MANO) for global operators, increasing service agility and reducing service-affecting manual errors.

Under the deal, Metaswitch will OEM Cloudify’s virtual network functions management (VNFM) capabilities in delivery of its own VoLTE TAS, vSBC and vIMS VNFs and the two companies are collaborating closely in customer engagements, bridging gaps in operators’ NFV MANO systems.

Cloudify is a TOSCA-based open source cloud orchestration platform that helps operators to transition from non-virtualized appliances to virtualized, and ultimately cloud-native architecture with full lifecycle management and orchestration as well as service function chaining.

“Cloudify and Metaswitch share a long-standing commitment to lowering the barrier to entry for carriers looking to transition to new cloud-native services,” said Nati Shalom, CTO, Cloudify. “Together we deliver a simplified solution for achieving a more agile service environment through a convergence of networks and IT systems from an infrastructure and process perspective.”

“The biggest obstacle to achieving the full potential of NFV is the lack of maturity in the operational automation capabilities of the OSS toolchain,” said Martin Taylor, CTO of Metaswitch. “Our integration with Cloudify simplifies and accelerates lifecycle management automation, giving carriers faster, error-free operational management of their cloud-based virtual network infrastructures.”

NTT DATA INTELLILINK picks Cloudify's TOSCA orchestration

NTT DATA INTELLILINK Corporation, which delivers managed IT services, has chosen Cloudify’s open source cloud-native orchestration platform as a preferred TOSCA orchestration framework and is now offering Cloudify to its IT systems integration customers throughout the world.

Cloudify's orchestration framework automates the application stack installation and deployment processes as well as post-deployment processes such as monitoring, auto-healing, updating and auto-scaling. Cloudify can also orchestrate OpenStack or other on-premise cloud infrastructure, public clouds such as AWS and Azure, and other infrastructure technologies such as Docker containers. In addition to managing a wide variety of on-premises servers, clouds and network devices, Cloudify can manage multiple clouds simultaneously as well as automate cloud infrastructure and application changes.

Cloudify Offers Open Source NFV MANO

GigaSpaces Technologies announced that a Telecom Edition of its Cloudify platform will be ready for production in early July.

The Cloudify Telecom Edition, which is tailored to the needs of NFV operators, offers NFV-specific plugins as well as blueprints showcasing VNFs and SFC (Service Function Chaining), including:

  • Netconf plugin
  • Clearwater vIMS blueprints and plugins
  • F5 BigIP plugin
  • Network service management
  • TOSCA/YANG data modeling interoperability
  • VNF updates for running VNFs and services
  • NIC ordering
  • Support for Cloud Native services through Kubernetes plugin
  • Multi-VIM - Now fully open source vCloud and vSphere plugins, alongside OpenStack native support
  • Overlay Service Chaining
  • Enhanced Platform Awareness coupled with Data Plane Acceleration through integration with Intel
  • Drag and drop Cloudify Composer with VNF-specific components
  • Native integration with ARIA
  • Support installation within environments with no internet access

The Cloudify Telecom Edition, based on the telecom-friendly TOSCA standard, will be delivered with the ARIA TOSCA Orchestration Engine at its core, an open source and open governance embeddable reference implementation of TOSCA targeted for NFV users.

The Cloudify platform is on display at the Cloudify community booth at this week's OPNFV Summit in Berlin.
