Champion ONE launches 200G and 400G transceivers

Champion ONE announced the general availability of a new line of 200G and 400G optical transceivers.

Champion ONE’s initial portfolio includes 200G transceivers in double density QSFP (QSFP-DD) and CFP2 form factors, as well as 400G transceivers in QSFP-DD and octal SFP (OSFP) formats. While QSFP-DD offers higher port density and better backward compatibility with 100G transceivers, OSFP is believed to offer a better path to 800G and beyond.

“The rapid growth of internet traffic is requiring data centers and service providers to deploy higher capacity circuits rapidly,” said Tim Yanda, Director of Engineering and Product Development. “400G optical transceivers will pay a key role in helping service providers and data centers to achieve their goals. We’ve listened to our customers in these industries, and are excited to lead the way on 400G transceivers.”

These new products extend Champion ONE’s existing line of Passport universally compatible transceivers. They are built in compliance with their respective multi-source agreements.

Champion ONE intros 100G Active DWDM Open Line System

Champion ONE introduced a line of carrier-grade, 100G PAM4 Active DWDM Open Line Systems. 

The platform enables network operators to add multiple channels of 100G transmission over links longer than 40km on one pair of fibers.

Champion ONE said its open line systems, available in both 8-channel and 40-channel versions, offer an alternative to coherent solutions that is both cost-effective and simpler to deploy and operate. The solution is a fraction of the cost of a new coherent-only blade switch, and will work with most traditional 100G switches that have QSFP28 ports. The operational simplicity comes from zero-touch provisioning, which only takes minutes to turn up, thereby speeding up time to revenue. The system automatically measures fiber length and adjusts for dispersion and power balancing across channels.

Additionally, their form factors (1-3RU) are relatively small compared to alternative systems including open ROADMs. The large heat sink on the 40-channel versions enables carrier-grade performance and reliability, minimizing network downtime. These devices would be ideal for applications including data center interconnects, carrier transport networks, and university and hospital campuses.

This new solution adds to our growing toolbox of cost-effective ways to break through network capacity bottlenecks,” said CEO John Jutila. “Many of our customers seek to improve capacity without requiring new fiber builds or forklift upgrades associated with expensive equipment platform changes. This solution can add massive capacity on existing fibers between switches.”

Champion ONE launches SDN/NFV-enabled Ethernet Switches

Champion ONE, a supplier of open networking and optical network solutions, has announced a new line of open network Ethernet switches that offer support for software defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualisation (NFV) functionality.

Champion ONE's new line of Ethernet switches is designed to deliver the benefits of and is based on the principles of an open architecture, eliminating vendor lock-in with proprietary hardware and feature set and offering a solution with fully disaggregated switch hardware and software. The solution allows customers to select from a menu of software options and switch hardware suitable for specific applications.

As part of the switch offering, designed for service provider and data centre markets, Champion ONE has partnered with software vendors including IP Infusion, Pica8 and Cumulus Networks to provide customers with a range of operating systems suitable for their individual requirements. The switches are based on open standards to enable interoperability with legacy equipment and integration with existing infrastructure.

The new Champion ONE switches, available in copper and optical versions, are high-density solutions providing support for up to 54 ports and Layer 2/3 line-rate switching at data rates of 1, 10 and 40 Gbit/s (with 100 Gbit/s solutions planned for mid-2017). In addition, the switches integrate Broadcom chipsets, enabling support for large routing tables, fast forwarding rates, and high switching capacity.
