Bahrain's Batelco picks Nuage for SD-WAN 2.0

Batelco, Bahrain's leading service provider, has chosen the Nuage Networks’ SD-WAN 2.0 solution to support cloud connectivity, automation and digital transformation services for its Bahrain and international enterprise customers.

Batelco serves corporate and consumer customers in the MENA region — offering fixed broadband and mobile communication services as well as digital services, such as data center and cloud, internet and e-commerce services.

The deal is expected to support the digital transformation efforts of Batelco’s enterprise customers across sectors including banking and finance, healthcare, education, hospitality, transportation and energy.

Batelco picks Ericsson for 5G in Bahrain

Batelco has selected Ericsson for 5G deployment in its home market of Bahrain. The deal includes Ericsson's 5G New Radio (NR), mobile transport, and core. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Batelco recently achieved Bahrain’s first 3GPP-compliant 5G data call on a commercial mobile network using a 5G pocket router. The call used Ericsson Radio System solutions and 5G Cloud Packet Core.

Rafiah Ibrahim, Head of Market Area Middle East & Africa at Ericsson says: “Today, we are partnering with Batelco for a 5G commercial deployment in Bahrain. 5G promises to accelerate the digitization of industries, offering service providers with new opportunities and enabling them to launch the most advanced technologies while improving the end-user experience with higher data speeds and lower latency.”

Ciena selected for New Batelco Gulf Network

Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco), which is the incumbent carrier in Bahrain, has selected Ciena’s Converged Packet Optical Platform as the foundation for the new Batelco Gulf Network (BGN), which will connect all the countries across the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) in the Arabian Gulf region. Financial terms were not disclosed.

BGN will operate state-of-the-art OTN infrastructure as an alternative to more vulnerable submarine cables. The BGN terrestrial fibre cable extends 1,400km and is managed by Batelco with full control and manageability and can be interconnected with other regional and global cable systems for access to onward connectivity to Europe, Asia, Africa and the rest of the world.

Batelco Chief Global Business Officer Adel Al-Daylami said that Batelco chose to invest in the Batelco Gulf Network as a fully owned and managed terrestrial fiber optic cable network, thus providing the country a new state of the art international gateway that will enable Bahrain to meet the growing demand for data services and applications.
