Russia's MegaFon Appoints New CEO, Arranges Loan

MegaFon, which is Russia's second largest mobile operator, announced the appointment of Ivan Tavrin as Chief Executive Officer, replacing Sergey Soldatenkov.

Ivan Tavrin was born on November 1, 1976 in Moscow and he is a graduate of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO). Tavrin currently serves as Chairman of the Board and a shareholder in UTH, the largest media holding company in Russia (MUZ-TV and Disney Channel).

According to news reports, MegaFon is also finalizing US$4.5 billion in new loans to buyout shares in the company that are currently held by Mikhail Fridman. The company is contemplating an IPO later this year.
