China Plans TD-LTE Trial in Six Cities

China Mobile has received permission from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) to launch trials of TD-LTE in six cities: Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Xiamen.

China Mobile successfully demonstrated multi-vendor TD-LTE developments at last year's Shanghai World Expo. The company has been actively promoting a synchronized development and convergence of TD-LTE/FDD LTE in international standards organizations. TD-LTE has also gained support from China's government and from the industry ecosystems. Multiple TD-LTE chipsets are now expected to be commercially available in the first half of 2011.
