nTelos Selects Alcatel-Lucent for Wireless Broadband Upgrade

nTelos, a Virginia-based integrated telecommunications provider serving the mid-Atlantic region, selected Alcatel-Lucent to upgrade its wireless network. The three-year contract, which is valued at up to $88.2 million in equipment, services and software, covers deployment of CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision A (Rev. A) technology in Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio and North Carolina. In addition, Alcatel-Lucent will provide its IP/MPLS solution, which includes the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router and 7450 Ethernet Service Switch, to deploy an IP routing and IP RAN backhaul solution.

  • Earlier this year, Tellabs said it was supplying optical access and optical transport equipment to nTelos. The access contract specified GPON equipment. In addition, nTelos is deploying the Tellabs 5500 NGX transport switch, the Tellabs 7120 NGX advanced transport node and the Tellabs 5320/L digital cross-connect. The equipment will be used for high-density bandwidth management and grooming.
