SureWest Reaches 30% Residential DSL Milestone

SureWest Communications, which serves the Sacramento, California region, has reached a 30% DSL penetration rate for its residential customer base in the area served by its incumbent local telephone company. With nearly 27,000 DSL subscribers (24,000 residential) as of September 30, 2005, SureWest provides both high-speed Internet service and a video over DSL service for customers in the communities of Roseville, Citrus Heights, Antelope and Granite Bay, California.

The company said its DSL penetration increased from just over 7% in its residential telephone service area in January 2001 to the more than 30% today.

As part of its broadband growth strategy, SureWest also has built a fiber- to-the-premise (FTTP) network to nearby areas, including parts of Sacramento, Land Park, Natomas, Lincoln and Elk Grove.
