WildBlue Secures $50 Million in Additional Equity
WildBlue Communications has completed a $50 million equity financing to support its continued growth. Specifically, the proceeds will fund WildBlue's recently launched customer equipment leasing program, enabling the company's service to be offered to new customers throughout rural America at the lowest upfront price in the company's history. WildBlue will also expand its workforce in the areas of customer care and field service operations.
The financing was led by Liberty Media , Intelsat, the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative and the private equity firm of Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield and Byers. Terms of the financing were not disclosed.

Inmarsat Selects ILS Proton to Launch S-Band Satellite for Europe
Inmarsat has selected International Launch Services (ILS) for the launch of an S-band satellite to provide mobile broadcast and two-way telecommunications services throughout Europe. The contract follows the recent successful launch of the Inmarsat-4 F3 satellite on an ILS Proton Breeze M vehicle.
Inmarsat is a London-based provider of global mobile broadband services. ILS holds the exclusive worldwide rights to market and sell commercial launch services on the Proton launch vehicle. The Proton booster and Breeze M are both manufactured by Khrunichev Space Center, the majority owner of ILS and one of the cornerstones of the Russian space industry.
Thales Alenia Space of France is developing Inmarsat's S-band satellite, known as EuropaSat, using its Spacebus 4000C3 platform. The spacecraft will provide mobile broadcast and two-way telecommunications services throughout Europe. ...

SES' AMC-21 Satellite Successfully Enters Orbit
SES's new AMC-21 satellite was successfully launched aboard an Arianespace Ariane 5 rocket from the French Guiana Spaceport.
The AMC-21 satellite provides coverage of the Continental United States (CONUS), Southern Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. AMC-21 will provide broadcast television and mobile broadband services. The satellite is fitted with 24 Ku-band transponders, each 36 MHz in bandwidth, and will have an operational life of 15 years. Weighing about 2,500 kilograms at launch and having 6 kW of electrical power, it will initiate Ku-band service at 125 degrees West.

Broadcom Prevails in GPS Patent Case Against SiRF
A U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) judge ruled that products of SiRF Technology infringe six patents related to improving global positioning system (GPS) processing and sensitivity. The patents are held by Global Locate, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Broadcom. The infringement findings cover a range of SiRF products, including those incorporating the SiRFstarIII and SiRFInstant GPS architectures.
Broadcom said the Initial Determination containing the infringement ruling followed a trial earlier this year. A Final Determination by the full six-person Commission is expected by early December.

ElitePremium joins the newly unveiled Elite and ElitePlus plans with download speeds of up to 2 Mbps and 3 Mbps, respectively and the popular consumer plans -- Home, Pro, and ProPlus which feature recently increased download speeds of up to 1 Mbps, 1.2 Mbps and 1.6 Mbps, respectively.
