Apple TV Streams at 720p
The new $99 Apple TVbox streams TV shows and movies via iTunes at 720p, with TV content initially available from ABC, ABC Family, Fox, Disney Channel and BBC America. It also streams content from Netflix, YouTube, Flickr and MobileMe, as well as music, photos and videos from PCs and Macs.

Royalty-Free End-User Licensing for H.264 AVC Internet Video
MPEG Licensing Authority has decided to extend royalty-free licensing to end-users of the H.264 video codec (known as "Internet Broadcast AVC Video") during the entire life of this License. MPEG LA previously announced it would not charge royalties for such video through December 31, 2015.MPEG LA's AVC Patent Portfolio License provides access to essential patent rights for the AVC/H.264 (MPEG-4 Part 10) digital video coding standard.
In addition to Internet Broadcast AVC Video, MPEG LA's AVC Patent Portfolio License provides coverage for devices that decode and encode AVC video, AVC video sold to end users for a fee on a title or subscription basis and free television video services. AVC video is used in set-top boxes, media player and other personal computer software, mobile devices including telephones and mobile television receivers, Blu-ray Disc™ players and recorders, Blu-ray video optical discs, game machines, personal media player devices and still and video cameras.
Cisco to Acquire ExtendMedia for Video Content Management
Cisco agreed to acquire ExtendMedia, a privately-held company based outside of Boston with the majority of its employee base in Toronto, for its software-based Content Management Systems (CMS). Financial terms were not disclosed.ExtendMedia's "OpenCASE" CMS is designed to manage the entire lifecycle of video content through monetization for pay media and ad-supported business models. Cisco said the technology will help service providers deliver multi-screen offerings as the market transitions to IP video.
"As the video market transitions and consumers expect multi-screen engagement, service providers are enhancing their infrastructure to manage and deliver video to any device while providing a rich user experience," said Enrique Rodriguez, senior vice president and general manager, Cisco's Service Provider Video Technology Group. "ExtendMedia will strengthen Cisco's position in the delivery of IP video services by enabling service providers to provide a more interactive and personal experience and to optimize quality for consumer viewing devices."
Verizon Launches Enhanced On-Demand Games App
Verizon and its games-on-demand partner Exent have launched a major redesign of the Verizon Games service portal and desktop application, now offering more than 1,500 game choices.
The new Verizon Games app, built with "GameTanium", creates a more engaging, game-like environment designed to appeal to a mass-market audience.
Telstra Selects Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi for In-Home Option
Ruckus Wireless is providing Telstra with its 802.11n Smart Wi-Fi system for use with its new T-Box set-top box,which combines BigPond TV, movie downloads, HD free-to-air channels and a personal video recorder. The Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi systems are being offered as an option for Telstra customers who need to connect T-Box beyond the reach of an Ethernet connection or normal Wi-Fi connectivity. The Ruckus system uses 802.11n 5GHz technology and integrates patented smart antenna technology that focuses Wi-Fi signals only where they are needed while constantly steering transmissions over the highest performing signal paths.
