Cablevision Activates WiFi Zones in Long Island
Cablevision Systems has completed an initial rollout of its Optimum WiFi service in commercial and high-traffic areas of Nassau County, in areas of Suffolk County, and on the commuter rail platforms and station parking lots across all of Long Island. The service is provided as a value-added benefit for Cablevision's Optimum Online high-speed Internet customers.
Cablevision in May announced plans to deploy WiFi in the commercial and high consumer traffic areas across its entire tri-state service area over the next two years. ...

Ozmo Devices' Low Power Wi-Fi Pan Attracts Avago and Wolfson
Ozmo Devices, a start-up developing low-power Wi-Fi Personal Area Network (Wi-Fi PAN) solutions, announced design wins with Avago Technologies and Wolfson Microelectronics.
Ozmo and Avago announced a complete optical mouse design kit leveraging Ozmo's Wi-Fi PAN solution. Ozmo Devices' Wi-Fi PAN solution enables connectivity between peripherals such as mice and headsets and Wi-Fi-enabled platforms. The reference design kit, OZMO-AV35-RD, utilizes Ozmo Devices' OZMO1000 IC, and Avago's ADNB-3532 optical mouse sensor.
Ozmo Devices and Wolfson Microelectronics are collaborating to deliver an audio reference design to manufacturers of audio peripherals leveraging Ozmo's Wi-Fi PAN technology. Ozmo Devices' Wi-Fi PAN solution enables connectivity between peripherals such as mice and headsets and Wi-Fi-enabled platforms. Colubris Supplies WLAN for Kuala Lumpur Muni Network
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's federal capital, has begun a phased deployment of WLAN equipment from Colubris Networks to enable wireless computing across the city's commercial, residential and public areas. 
Wireless@KL is one of the pioneer projects initiated by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (SKMM), together with Packet One Networks, a leading WiMAX operator, and it is to be rolled out under the "Klang Valley Broadband Push." Colubris wireless LAN equipment has been selected to provide Wi-Fi connectivity to Packet One's WiMAX infrastructure, enabling any Wi-Fi device, including laptops, PDAs, dual-mode phones, and other handheld devices, to access the Internet.
The installation of Colubris equipment is being handled by D-Synergy, one of Southeast Asia's leading infrastructure enablement companies.
The first phase of the Wireless@KL program is underway and will include the deployment of 1,500 access points throughout the city in commercial areas, offices, residential areas, community centres and other key public areas. It will offer wireless broadband with 80% coverage across the federal capital.
Colubris said Wireless@KL joins similar municipal projects in Paris, Singapore and Luzern that have recently deployed public Wi-Fi networks based on Colubris gear. ...

Intel Releases xHCI Draft Spec for USB 3.0 Architecture
Intel released the Extensible Host Controller Interface (xHCI) draft specification revision 0.9 in support of the USB 3.0 architecture, also known as SuperSpeed USB. The xHCI draft specification provides a standardized method for USB 3.0 host controllers to communicate with the USB 3.0 software stack.
xHCI describes the registers and data structures used to interface between system software and the hardware, and are developed to be compatible with the USB 3.0 specification being developed by the USB 3.0 Promoter Group.
Intel is making the draft spec available under RAND-Z (royalty free) licensing terms to all USB 3.0 Promoter Group and contributor companies that sign an xHCI contributor agreement.

GN Netcom Introduces Noise Blackout for Headsets
GN Netcom introduced a new generation of noise cancellation technology that reduces ambient sound without compromising voice quality. The new "Noise Blackout" technology, which will initially be available in the new Jabra BT530 Bluetooth device, applies a directional principle to noise cancellation, reducing only surrounding noise and not distorting the users' voice. The technology uses dual microphones to capture sound, intelligently filtering background noise only. Other noise cancellation headsets cancel noise by cutting away audio frequency and reducing sound quality.
DSP technology uses the dual microphones to determine the direction of the sound or noise based on the sound delay between the two microphones, making it possible to filter out unwanted noise. The DSP also uses the dual microphone system to significantly reduce stationary noise. To eliminate the "tinny" effect, sound emanating from the mouth is enhanced and transmitted while all other sound is classified as noise and is filtered out.
"Our Noise Blackout technology is a completely new and proprietary technology that not only allows crystal clear sound but eliminates the 'tinny' sound that many noise cancellation headsets are plagued with," said Anne Rasmussen, Vice President, Mobile Division, GN Netcom.
