Consumer Association Lobbies for More 5 GHz Unlicensed Spectrum
The Consumer Electronics Association, an industry group representing electronics manufacturers, is calling for the FCC to allocate additional spectrum in the 5 GHz band for unlicensed devices. In support of its recommendation, CEA noted that the unlicensed spectrum below 5 GHz is becoming increasingly crowded and congested. Additional 5 GHz allocation would encourage continued growth and development of home networking technologies, such as 802.11a.
