CHECKPOINT INTRODUCES NEW INTERNET SECURITY SOLUTION FOR SERVICE PROVIDERS
Check Point Software Technologies introduced a newly architected version of its Internet security management solution for service providers and large enterprise networks that establishes an ultra-resilient management layer for continuous access to security policy information and critical resources.  The new security framework seeks to ensure Total Availability Management (TAM) through which globally distributed Provider-1 management servers automatically synchronize customer and administrator data.  Each regionally managed server functions as a backup to the others, so no individual hardware, software or network element represents a single point of failure.  The new software release also tightens security by providing information that can track policy changes by administratorshttp://www.checkpoint.com/press/2001/provider1ng101001.html

MICROSOFT INVESTS IN GROOVE NETWORKS, PURSUING WEB PEER SERVICES
Microsoft invested approximately $51 million in Groove Networks, a start-up developing peer-to-peer Internet applications and services.  Microsoft and Groove are working on a shared vision for XML-based Web and peer services that combines Groove’s collaboration technologies with Microsoft .NET and Windows XP.  Groove Networks’ software platform provides a self-healing communications architecture across firewall boundaries.  Because the product is not dependent on centralized Web servers, it has a lower vulnerability to single points of failure, making it suited for uninterrupted and secure cross-business operations.  The software allows teams to collaborate in secure, shared virtual spaces, in real time or offline.  Groove Networks raised an additional $3 million from other investors, including Accel Partners.  The company is headquartered in Beverly, Massachusetts.  http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2001/Oct01/10-10GroovePR.asp
