WILLIAMS TO LAUNCH MPLS-BASED VPN SERVICE
Williams Communications will launch MPLS-enabled virtual private network service over its IP backbone by Q1 2002.  The service will be based on Cisco 12000 Internet series routers.  Additionally, Williams Communications is implementing an Inter-Autonomous System VPN solution that will allow service providers, running separate autonomous systems, to jointly offer VPN services to the same end customer.  Williams’ IP backbone uses a Packet-over-SONET design.  http://www.williamscommunications.com/newsroom/newsreleases/2001/080801.html

HITACHI-IT TO OFFER WORLD WIDE PACKET’S ETHERNET SUBSCRIBER PLATFORM IN JAPAN
Hitachi-IT, one of Japan's leading information technology network integrators, will offer World Wide Packets’ Ethernet-to-the-Subscriber platform in Japan.  The solution will be aimed specifically at the multi-tenant and multi-dwelling (MxU) markets.  The companies said a planned subsidy by the National Government to municipalities, the deregulation of the NTT, along with the funding of new ventures and technologies by national and municipal governments would accelerate the deployment of fiber to the home (FTTH) in Japan.  http://www.wwp.com/news/pressRelease.jsp?id=31  http://www.hitachi-it.co.jp

IXIA ANNOUNCES VSR OPTICS FOR ITS OC-192C TESTER
Ixia introduced a Very Short Reach (VSR) interface for its OC-192c Packet Over SONET and Bit Error Rate Tester (BERT) analysis modules.  VSR technology uses twelve parallel multi-mode fiber optic lines operating at 1.25 Gbps per channel, instead of existing 1310nm or 1550nm serial optics.  VSR optics are designed to drive signals over distances less than 300 meters, which is sufficient for interconnecting devices within a service provider's Point-of-Presence (POP).  http://www.ixiacom.com/
