ONEX
OUTLINES MULTISERVICE SILICON PLANS
ONEX, a start-up based in Bedford, Massachusetts,
announced its plans for integrating optical transmission,
switching, routing, and control software into a two-chip
silicon solution. The
ONEX solution aims to provide “service agility” at the
silicon level, enabling multiservice platforms that
combine the functionality of IP routing, ATM switching and
digital cross-connects.
The silicon solution will consist of two devices: a
universal service processor and a universal switch
processor. The
service processor would enable universal SONET/SDH line
cards for TDM, ATM or packet services.
The switch processor would provide a common fabric
for native TDM, ATM and packet switching as well as
control plane processing.
Product specifics will be announced at a later
date. Sampling
is expected later this year.
ONEX partners include IBM for fabrication,
Tensilica for its integrated RISC libraries and Wind River
for its embedded real time OS.
