MARCONI
CUTS ITS FINANCIAL FORECAST, YEARLY REVENUES EXPECTED TO
FALL 15%
Marconi
requested a halt in trading of its shares in London on
July 4 in order to give the market an urgent update of its
financial guidance. Citing
a weakening market for telecommunications products,
particularly in Europe, Marconi now expects sales
for its fiscal year ending 31 March 2002 to be around 15%
lower than the previous year and operating profit before
exceptional items to be down by approximately 50%.
Marconi has already reduced its global workforce by
4,000 people since cost-cutting measures were announced in
April. The
company plans a reduction of an additional 4,000 jobs.
Marconi will withdraw from a number of its existing
facilities and concentrate its activities on a number of
major sites. Marconi
said it remains confident in the medium-term outlook and
expects to see some signs of recovery in the first half of
2002. http://www.marconi.com/html/news/tradingstatementandrequestforresumptionoftradinginshares.htm
