SBC
REACHES 767,000 DSL CUSTOMERS, DATA REVENUES GROW 44%
As of December 31, SBC Communications was serving 767,000 DSL
customers, up from 516,000 at the end of Q3.
Total data services revenue exceeded $2.2 billion during
Q4, up 44% over the same period last year.
SBC noted a 68% increase in SONET revenues, due primarily
to large corporate customers' growing use of bandwidth-hungry
applications. The
company reported a 49% growth in switched data transport services,
including ATM, Frame Relay and DSL.
Data revenues now represent 21.5% of SBC's wireline
revenues, compared with 16% in Q4 99. Regarding its national
expansion, SBC now has marketing activities underway in 12 of 30
expansion markets. http://www.sbc.com/Investor/earnings.html

MATSUSHITA
INTRODUCES 1394 CHIP FOR DIGITAL AV COMPONENTS AND PC PERIPHERALS
Matsushita introduced an IEEE1394 interface chip that provides
network connectivity for both digital AV components and PC
peripherals. Two
high-speed physical layer ports each offer IEEE1394a-compliant
maximum throughput of 400 Mbps.
The chip further features dual, bi-directional protocol
processors and content protection circuits based on DTCP (Digital
Transmission Content Protection) that enable high-speed,
high-quality independent data streams of different data types to
flow in both directions simultaneously.
