AGILITY
INTRODUCES WIDELY TUNABLE LASERS COVERING 100 ITU WAVELENGTHS
Agility
Communications introduced a high-power, widely tunable laser that
could be used for dynamic DWDM networks.
The Agility 3040 laser is capable of tuning to more than
100 ITU (International Telecommunications Union) channels in less
than 10 milliseconds. It
provides 4 mw of optical output power, supporting the entire
"C" band of 1525 nm to 1565 nm with 50-GHz spacing.
The device is based on an indium phosphide laser chip
manufactured at the company’s wafer fab in Santa Barbara,
California. Agility
said its technology supports four times the distance and more than
five times the channels as currently available tunable lasers.
The company is developing high-volume manufacturing
facilities for scaling its production up to one million lasers per
year. http://www.agilitycom.com/what/3040.cfm

NET2PHONE
TEAMS WITH CALLWAVE FOR FREE INTERNET ANSWERING MACHINE
Net2Phone added
CallWave's Internet Answering Machine into its Internet telephony
product lines. The
free Internet Answering Machine allows consumers to use one phone
line for both voice calls and Internet usage.
Instead of getting
a busy signal when the user is surfing, the calling party can
leave a message on the virtual answering machine.
The service allows users to hear who is calling while they
are online. Net2Phone’s
integration will enable users to return the call via a single
click Internet telephony connection. In addition, Net2Phone will
provide CallWave-branded versions of its outbound calling
services, including free domestic and paid international
PC-to-Phone for outbound calls, and paid calling cards.

MALIBU
NETWORKS OUTLINES ITS OFDM FIXED WIRELESS SYSTEMS
Malibu Networks, a
start-up based in Calabasas, California, introduced a fixed
wireless IP access system based on Orthogonal Frequency Division
Multiplexing (OFDM) technology. OFDM is advanced RF technology
that does not require line-of-sight between the transmitter and
receiver, and is highly resilient to multipath effects and
interference. The
company’s product line will include base
stations, customer premise equipment, antennas, protocol and
system software, and management software for the 2.5 GHz, 3.5 GHz,
and 5.8 GHz spectra. The
Malibu system will also use layer-two
protocols optimized for wireless connections.
Other key architectural features include:
an adaptive
RF modulation for maintaining maximum throughput; dynamic TDD for
balancing upstream and downstream flows; a dynamic forward error
correction capability; a predictive bandwidth allocation for
supporting real-time voice and video; and customer interfaces for 100
Mbps Ethernet. Commercial
availability is targeted for early next year.
