SYCAMORE NETWORKS INTRODUCES OPTICAL ACCESS AND EDGE SWITCHES
Sycamore Networks introduced new optical access and edge switches featuring rapid service provisioning, end-to-end restoration and integration with the company's core optical network management system.  The SN 3000 is a fully redundant, carrier-class Optical Access Switch designed to aggregate and groom TDM, ATM and IP services onto a fast, intelligent optical core. The switch integrates the functionality of SONET/SDH ADMs, digital cross-connects, packet/cell switches, and optical transport.  The SN 4000 is an Optical Edge Switch that aggregates and switches SONET/SDH streams (STS-1 up to OC-192/STM-64) and wavelength traffic to and from access/metro area networks. The platform features a 480-gigabit, non-blocking switch fabric capable of supporting as many as twelve OC-192 ports or forty-eight OC-48 ports.  Intelligent configuration software allows carriers to optimize bandwidth consumption on each individual port.  Both products were developed by Sycamore's Optical Edge Business Unit.  Commercial availability is expected this quarter.
