  • Mariposa's product line consists of three integrated access device models. The ATX 50 IAD for small to medium sized offices can handle from as few as four to as many as 60 voice channels, plus H.320 video, Ethernet and Frame Relay over a single scaleable ATM interface.  The ATX100 provides from 4 to 60 compressed voice channels, Ethernet 10/100 and Frame data (Frame Relay or HDLC), and fractional T1/E1 structured circuit emulation service over a single ATM T1 UNI. The ATX 150, which is designed for medium and large sites, handles up to 120 voice channels with the same video and data capabilities.

  • Mariposa's IADs use both ATM Adaptation Layer-1 (AAL-1) and AAL-5 protocols for establishing switched virtual circuits (SVCs), and can determine which protocol to use based on the telephone number dialed by the subscriber.  The devices could be used with ATM SVCs to offer customer re-configurable bandwidth options.

  • Mariposa Technology was founded in 1997 with financial backing from Ericsson and private investors. The company recently named Woodrow B. Cannon (formerly CEO of Digital Transmission Systems) as its new chief executive.   In May, Marconi signed a global OEM agreement for Mariposa's IADs.

  • Last month, Nortel Networks acquired Sonoma Systems, also a developer of ATM-based integrated access products, for $540 million.
