UNISPHERE SHIPS MPLS EDGE ROUTER
Unisphere Networks announced availability of an Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) on its Edge Routing Switch (ERX).  Unisphere's MPLS implementation includes both the critical edge function, where incoming IP traffic gets classified and mapped into appropriate MPLS paths, and the pure MPLS switching function for forwarding MPLS traffic. In addition, the ERX provides support for label distribution protocols (LDP, CR-LDP and RSVP) to enable interoperability.  Unisphere said its platform is designed to deliver IP-based Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and IP traffic engineering for service level agreements (SLAs).  Unisphere's ERX is available as either a 14-slot or 7-slot chassis supporting T1/E1, T3/E3, channelized and unchannelized OC3/STM-1, OC12/STM-4, and Fast/Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.  http://www.unispherenetworks.com/index/home/news/press_releases/pr_09192000_1.html

NET.COM INTRODUCES SHOUTIP TELEPHONY PLATFORM
net.com introduced an open programmable IP telephony switching platform for next-generation service providers.  The platform uses a unique architecture of distributed nodes to perform trunking, signaling, gatekeeper/call agent functions, network management and configuration.  Initial models provide trunking over IP or TDM switching.  Additional SHOUTIP models will offer ATM as well as IP transport, SS7 and SIP, and meet central office (CO) requirements.  Additional platform options will support calling card, fax mail, voice mail and follow-me services, as well as billing, configuration, and network management functions.  net.com said its distributed IP telephony switching architecture achieves greater network resilience by preventing a single point of failure, while delivering faster call set-up time, better scalability and elimination of multiple operational support systems, including packet aggregators.  http://www.net.com/company/releases/pr00/pr2100.shtml
net.com, September 19, 2000

TURNSTONE'S COPPER CROSSCONNECT OFFERS VODSL LIFELINE SUPPORT
Turnstone Systems enhanced its CrossConnect CX100 local loop management platform with a new line card that enables service providers to offer a VoDSL lifeline failover without having to deploy a conventional POTs line.  The new card generates battery on the loop and monitors for off-hook conditions at the customer premises. If a subscriber initiates a call and the VoDSL integrated access device is not functioning, the Copper CrossConnect CX100 detects the off-hook condition and automatically crossconnects the subscriber loop to a backup IAD at the central office.  If the Copper CrossConnect CX100 is integrated with the service provider's voice gateway management system, the subscriber will be able to transparently initiate or receive calls through the CO IAD.  http://www.turnstone.com/news/press_release_091900_l155.shtm
