INTEGRATED NETWORKS RAISES $830 MILLION FOR DEPLOYMENT OF FTTH
Western Integrated
Networks, a start-up
carrier focusing on local access networks, raised $830 million
from prominent investors in a second round of equity financing.
The company is planning residential broadband
networks featuring fiber-to-the-home (FTTH).
Target markets are Tier I/Tier II cities in the western and
southwestern US.
Western Integrated Networks
said it intends to offer a dedicated optical link to every home.
Investors include J.P. Morgan, Madison Dearborn,
Columbia Capital, First Union Capital and others.
The company is based in Denver, Colorado.

REACHES 221,000 DSL CUSTOMERS
As of June 30, Verizon
Communications had 221,000 DSL subscribers, up 47% from the end of
Q2. The company's
data revenue growth currently exceeds 30%.

Runner had 912,000 cable modem subscribers, up by 182,000 over the
preceding quarter. The

SECURES $90 MILLION IN FIFTH ROUND VENTURE FINANCING
CopperCom raised
an additional $90 million in its fifth round of financing,
bringing its total funding to nearly $155 million since 1997.
CopperCom is developing voice over broadband products
supporting up to 24 voice lines simultaneously over a single,
copper wire. The new funding round was
jointly led by Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV) and Charter

FIBER OPTIC NETS $27 MILLION IN NEW VENTURE FUNDING
Alliance Fiber Optic
Products, a developer of optical components and subsystems, raised
$27 million in equity financing.
The new funds will used to expand production capacity and
for development of advanced DWDM related products.
Investors include New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Texas
Pacific Group, Weiss, Peck & Greer Venture Partners, CMEA
Ventures, and Acorn Funds (the private investment firm of Wu-Fu

REDUX COMMUNICATIONS TARGETS NET SILICON
Redux Communications, a
start-up based in Modi'in,
Israel, received $5 million for its development of silicon
technology for next generation Internet services.
Investors include Israel's Genesis Partners and Giza Group.
Former employees of RAD Data Communications established the
company in November 1999.

MICROWAVE BECOMES STRATEX NETWORKS
Digital
Microwave Corporation, a supplier of broadband wireless access
equipment, will change its name to DMC Stratex Networks.
The company's Altium radio product line operate in the
frequency bands of 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 18 23, 26, 28, 31 and
38 GHz. The radio, which uses 128 QAM modulation, is designed to
deliver 155 Mbps capacity in only 28 MHz of bandwidth.
The company is based in San Jose, California.

Next Generation Networking
An
executive conference on MPLS Next Generation Networking
will be held 25-28 September at Thistle
