MOTOROLA AND AT&T TO SELL "PROJECT ANGEL" FIXED WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY
AT&T Wireless Group agreed to provide Motorola with a temporary license to supply its proprietary, "Project Angel" fixed wireless technology to local service providers outside the US.  AT&T is currently deploying its fixed wireless local voice and data service delivery platform in Fort Worth, Texas.  The company plans to offer fixed wireless local access in six additional US markets by the end of the year.  http://www.motorola.com  http://www.att.com

  • AT&T's Project Angel technology provides always-on, fixed wireless connectivity at rates up to 512 kbps.  AT&T plans to increase the speed to 1 Mbps per channel.  The service does not require line of sight connectivity between the neighborhood base stations and the antenna located on the exterior of the customer's home.  When it launched its Fort Worth service in March, AT&T was charging $25.95 a month for unlimited local calling with Caller ID, call waiting and three-way calling services.  Data services were priced separately at $34.95 a month.  http://www.att.com/press/item/0,1354,2706,00.html

  • Last month, CoreExpress raised $573 million in venture funding to build an extranet service that would provide performance guarantees between businesses using different ISPs.  CoreExpress aims to change the fundamental business model of how ISPs exchange traffic.  Currently, ISPs exchange customer traffic as close as possible to the sender on the originating ISP, and the terminating ISP carries the data the majority of the distance to its destination.  CoreExpress will introduce proprietary Internet Data Exchange System (iDES) that offers financial incentives for ISPs to deliver each other's customer traffic with a guaranteed high level of quality.  The network architecture will use Cisco Systems' routers in addition to Nortel Networks' optical transport.   http://www.coreexpress.net
