RUNNER ACTIVATES ITS FIRST OC-192 TRUNK
Road
Runner activated the first OC-192 trunk on its national fiber
network. The OC-192
pipe uses Cisco 12016 routers and serves MediaOne's greater Boston
region. The upgrade
gives Road Runner the bandwidth capacity equivalent of 32,000
video streams at 300 kbps. Road Runner anticipates that its entire
national backbone will be running at OC-48 by year's end and fully
OC-192 connected by the end of 2001.

DIALPAD
CLAIMS 7.5 MILLION REGISTERED USERS FOR ITS FREE INTERNET
TELEPHONY
Dialpad,
a web site that offers unlimited free calling to any number in the
US, currently has 7.5 million registered users.
The company has now routed over 500 million cumulative
minutes of Voice over IP traffic since beginning its service.
The company reports an average of 30,000 new members
signing up for free calling service every day.
Dialpad further reports that on average, 90% of its
site's 250,000 daily visitors are repeat users who make more than
750,000 calls and talk for 4.5 million minutes per day.
Dialpad , which
is a member of the Cisco Powered Network program, uses other Cisco
Powered Network providers to transport and terminate the phone
calls. Dialpad's
business model is supported by targeted online advertising.

a start-up service provider targeting metropolitan Ethernet, will
locate its equipment in COLO.COM new colocation facilities.
The agreement will provide Telseon with facilities in
Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and
the Silicon Valley. Telseon

flagship broadband switch router. Key features include

Gigabit Ethernet ports, 60 Packet Over SONET OC-48c ports, 240
T1/E1 ports or 120 T3/E3 ports in a seven-foot

May, Telseon secured $80 million in second-round venture
funding to build its network.
The company also agreed to lease $43 million in dark
fiber from Level 3 Communications for fiber in 23 US markets.
EQUINIX
SECURES ADDITIONAL $95 MILLION FOR INTERNET BUSINESS EXCHANGES
Equinix, which is
building carrier-neutral Internet Business Exchange facilities in
major cities, raised more than $95 million in new venture
financing, bringing its total funding to $400 million.
Equinix has plans to open more than 30 centers around the
world over the next 4 years.
Its strategic partners include Bechtel, MCI WorldCom, North
Point Communications, InterNAP and Level 3.
New investments came from Capital Research Management
Company, American Express Financial Corporation, Putnam
Investments, Cisco Systems, Reuters, Benchmark Capital and

based in Denmark, announced an alliance to develop Gigabit and 10
Gigabit Ethernet silicon. Under
the agreement, Exbit's 16-port Gigabit Ethernet switch-on-chip,
will use Fujitsu's 0.18 micron technology.

CROSSING EUROPE SELECTS NORTEL'S OPTERA METRO DWDM
Global
Crossing Europe will deploy Nortel Networks' OPTera Metro DWDM for
its city networks, starting with London, Paris and Frankfurt.
The metro fiber networks are being built by MKI, a leading
European project management and construction company.

LUCENT
NAMED PRIMARY 3G SUPPLIER TO VERIZON WIRELESS
Lucent
Technologies was named primary supplier of 3G mobile technology by
Verizon Wireless, the new company formed by the merger of the US
wireless businesses of Bell Atlantic and Vodafone AirTouch.
The contract is valued at up to $1.5 billion and covers
Lucent's 3G-ready Flexent mobile switching centers and CDMA base
stations, access and transport systems based on ATM and IP.

TERACOM TO DEPLOY MORE THAN 80 LUCENT CBX500 ATM SWITCHES
Teracom,
Sweden's government owned radio/TV distributor, will deploy
more than 80 ATM nodes, based on Lucent's CBX 500 ATM switch and
PacketStar PSAX Broadband Multiservice Media Gateways.
The ATM network will be built over an existing SDH
infrastructure.
