BROADWING TO PRICE ITS VPN SERVICE USING XACCT'S IP USAGE MODEL
Broadwing Communications will adopt a billing model based on measured IP-usage for its new virtual private network (VPN) service that will be launched next month.  By integrating the IP-usage system from XACCT Technologies into its IP network, Broadwing plans to match business-grade IP VPN performance with usage-based IP billing data.  Broadwing will collect the customer usage data from multiple network elements, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and application servers. The XACCTusage system handles automated service provisioning and creates eXtensible Detail Records analogous to Call Detail Records (CDRs) generated by telephone switches.  Broadwing's eClass IP Virtual Private Network (VPN) service is aimed at both small to medium-sized businesses.  http://www.xacct.com/news/pressreleases/xacct_release_000501a.htm

LUCENT'S WILDWIRE OCTAL DSPS TO DOUBLE DSL DENSITY
Lucent Technologies Microelectronics Group announced a DSP system-on-a-chip solution that can simultaneously process eight channels of ADSL transmission in any combination of G.DMT, G.Lite, and/or American National Standards Institute T1413 Issue 2-based connections. The solution doubles the channel density of ADSL compared to current offerings.  Lucent said its WildWire Octal architecture supports voice over ATM, riding over DSL, via the fast path. Each of the eight channels supports two paths, an interleaved path of data and a fast path for voice. The chip set is capable of supporting channelized voice, which is digital voice transmitted over a TDM fast path channel and delivered to a host via the TDM port on the DSP16470 chip.
