ALCATEL DEBUTS ITS NEXT GENERATION DSLAM
Alcatel's successor to its market-leading Alcatel 1000 ASAM (ATM subscriber Access Multiplexer) initially will support up to five times the density of lines, increasing to nearly ten times the number of lines in the near future.  The new ASAM's adds support for multiple ATM QoS classes and switched virtual circuits (SVCs).  It supports multi-mode ADSL (splitterless full-rate G.dmt and lower-speed G.lite), as well as standards-based symmetric DSL services such as HDSL2 and G.shdsl as well as multiple voice channels over DSL.  The platform uses a 6 Gbps backplane for accommodating network interfaces up to OC-12/STM-4 and new line cards, including VDSL.  http://www.alcatel.com/vpr/
Alcatel, April 26, 2000

  • Earlier this month, Alcatel introduced new ADSL line cards for its large installed base of Litespan digital loop carriers.  Carriers could use the Litespan + ADSL solution to provide DSL services to customers more than 18,000 ft from a CO.  Alcatel will offer the solution as an environmentally hardened mini-DSLAM package for low-density subscriber DLC situations.  Alcatel’s largest DSL accounts include Bell Atlantic, SBC, BellSouth, Telekom Austria, Telia, BT, Belgacom, Telefonica in Spain, France Telecom, Telecom Italia, Singapore Telecom, PT Telecom of Indonesia and others.
