NET2PHONE’S INTERNET TELEPHONY RECEIVES KEY ENDORSEMENTS FROM AT&T, YAHOO!
An AT&T-led consortium acquired a 39% stake in Net2Phone, the leading provider of Internet telephony services.  AT&T and Net2Phone plan to jointly develop new Internet voice applications for cable telephony and the business communications market. The deal gives AT&T a license to deploy Net2Phone's technologies on a guaranteed lowest cost basis.  The AT&T consortium, which also includes BT and Liberty Media, has the right of first refusal to purchase IDT's remaining stake, potentially giving the consortium 59% control.  The AT&T consortium deal was valued at approximately $1.4 billion (March 30).  Separately, Yahoo! purchased a minority equity interest in Net2Phone representing a 5% stake for $150 million.  http://www.net2phone.com

  • ArrowPoint's Web switches are designed to dynamically direct specific content requests to the best site and best server at that moment.  The switches look into the HTTP request headers all the way down to the URL and into cookies with strings of more than 256 bytes to determine what content is being requested. ArrowPoint's Web switches can bypass caches for non-cacheable content, such as Common Gateway Interface (CGI), Active Server Pages (ASP), or database queries, and transmit these non-cacheable requests directly to the origin server.
  • Last October, Alcatel signed an OEM agreement to resell ArrowPoint Communications' Content Smart web Switches.  Lucent also OEMs the product.
