WaveStar OLS 400G DWDM system, its WaveStar BandWidth Manager, NX
64000 Terabit Router and GX-550 ATM switch.
Lucent will offer a metropolitan area version (the WaveStar
DataExpress 10G) of the OC-192 system, as well as a two-fiber
SONET configuration, a four-fiber SONET version, and a two-fiber
SDH version. The
company claims a 40% reduction in both space requirements and
power consumption for its 10 Gbps platform.
Metromedia Fiber Network will be the first to test the
WaveStar DataExpress 10G. Carrier customers committed to
deploying the WaveStar
10G system include BT’s Global Transport Network (GTN), Beijing
Telecommunications Administration (BTA), Tele1 (Scandinavia)
and UPC. http://www.lucent.com/press/0200/000223.nsa.html
Separately,
Lucent announced a major contract with Deutsche Telekom,
which is currently deploying both its 2.5 Gbps and new 10 Gbps
optical systems in a Germany-wide transport network.
Beginning next year, Deutsche Telekom will also install
Lucent's 80-channel capable WaveStar OLS 400G DWDM system.
The three-year contract was valued at hundreds of millions
of dollars. Lucent

INTEL
ACQUIRES VOICE
TECHNOLOGIES GROUP FOR IP PBX INTEGRATION
Intel
will acquire Voice Technologies Group, a developer of IP voice
integration technologies for PBX systems, for an undisclosed sum.
VTG offers a "VoiceBridge" board that connects
PC-based voice processing applications to a variety of PBXs.
The board provides eight ports of digital access to the PBX
by emulating the telephone sets used by ACD supervisors, ACD
agents, executive secretaries and attendants. The Buffalo, New
York-based company is also developing embedded IP telephony
systems for use inside specific key and PBX telephone systems.
Intel said the acquisition would provide its Dialogic
subsidiary with new capabilities and features to enable most
leading PBXs to work with its computer telephony server systems
and IP
gateways. http://www.intel.com/pressroom

EFFICIENT
INTRODUCES ADSL ROUTER WITH 4-PORT ETHERNET LAN HUB
Efficient Networks
introduced four new DSL products:
- a Dual Ethernet Broadband
Internet Router that allows multiple users to share a single,
connection with Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)
server support. The
5781 SpeedStream offers a built-in 4-port Ethernet hub for
connection to the local network, and an additional 4-port
Ethernet hub to provide connections for the Internet and web
servers. It has a suggested US retail price of $599.00.
- an ADSL Router featuring a
4-port Ethernet LAN hub and
support for both full-rate ADSL (G.dmt) and Universal ADSL
(G.lite). The SpeedStream 5861 has a suggested US retail price
of $599.00 and is compatible with external POTS splitters that
separate voice and data traffic.
- an ADSL router supporting DSL
over ISDN and featuring a built-in 4-port Ethernet LAN hub.
the SpeedStream 5865 would allow users to reach speeds of 8
Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream over existing ISDN
connections. US
list price is $649.00.
- an external DMT DSL modem with
standard 10Base-T Ethernet port for supporting of one or more
networked devices, and up to 1024 MAC addresses.
The SpeedStream 5260 feature set supports IEEE 802.1d
transparent MAC-layer bridging. Conversion of data packets
into ATM cells for transmission over the DSL link is performed
by a combination of software and hardware within the 5260. The
Ethernet packets are forwarded to the ATM/DSL port and are
encapsulated as Ethernet frames.
List price $349.00.
