NEC
DEVELOPS 400MBPS WIRELESS IEEE1394 HOME NETWORKING
NEC Corporation announced IEEE 1394 (FireWire) wireless networking
equipment capable of 400 Mbps over distances of up to 12 meters
line-of-sight. NEC said the
new technology uses 60GHz millimeter wavelength transmissions, an ASK
(amplitude shift keying) modulation scheme and a low cost transceiver.
Another key development enabling this technology is the incorporation of
an echo detection function into NEC’s 400 Mbps long-distance
transmission physical layer device. http://www.nec.co.jp/english/today/newsrel/0001/2602.html

ALCATEL
AND STMICROELECTRONICS TEST DMT-BASED VDSL
Alcatel and STMicroelectronics
agreed to jointly promote the DMT (Discrete Multi-Tone) modulation
technique as a worldwide standard for VDSL (Very high bit-rate Digital
Subscriber Line) at international regulatory level.
Alcatel has already tested digital video distribution, live video
streaming, video on demand and super high speed Internet Access over its
DMT-VDSL platform. ST and Telia have also recently announced and
demonstrated Zipper-VDSL, based on the DMT linecode, that enables full
interoperability with existing ADSL and ADSL G.Lite standards.
