CONVERGENT
NETWORKS WINS $50 MILLON CONTRACT FROM GLOBAL NAPS
Convergent
Networks announced the second major commercial deployment for its
voice/data convergence platform.
Global NAPs, a CLEC
focused on providing high volume services for companies such as WebTV,
Mindspring, MSN, Netcom and Ziplink, awarded a $50 million contract to
Convergent Networks to purchase up to 75 of its Integrated Convergence
Switches (ICSs) over a two-year period.
The switches provide interworking and adaptation between
traditional TDM and packet switched networks.
Global NAPs' initial application for the ICS platform will be to
offer outsourced dial-up remote access and high-speed digital services for
ISPs. The convergence
switches enable Global NAPs to deliver ISDN PRIs much more cost
effectively than via traditional circuit switches.
Global NAPs also plans to
extend the use of Convergent Networks’ solution to provision other
business services, such as VoDSL. Convergent
Networks' first customer win was a $30 million deal with 2nd
Century Communications. http://www.convergentnetworks.com

ACCELERATED
NETWORKS JOINS LUCENT'S WIRED FOR DSL PROGRAM
Accelerated
Networks completed interoperability testing of its voice-over-DSL (VoDSL)
solution under Lucent Technologies' "Wired for DSL" program.
Testing between Accelerated's voice-over-DSL (VoDSL) integrated access
devices (IADs) and voice gateways and Lucent's Stinger DSL concentrator
included both analog and digital voice calls using echo cancellation and
silence suppression. Both
companies' platforms use ATM for ensuring QoS.
Accelerated's voice services gateway supports both GR-303 and T1
trunking for voice termination across Class 3, 4, and 5 switches at the
carrier's regional switching center or POP.
