PMC-SIERRA INTRODUCES CHANNELIZED OC-12 CHIPSET FOR MULTISERVICE CENTRAL OFFICES
PMC-Sierra introduced a channelized OC-12 chip set for SONET/SDH equipment, such as multiservice add/drop multiplexers, switches, routers, concentrators and central office digital crossconnects.  The chip set enables single board designs capable of replacing up to ten cards previously required for channelized broadband applications.  The chipset can be used in conjunction with PMC-Sierra's existing HDLC processor, M13 MUX and ATM segmentation and reassembly devices.  The company said its expects the convergence of data and voice services over fiber-based metropolitan area network rings to drive the demand for high-density, multiservice switches, routers and remote access concentrators.  http://www.pmc-sierra.com

ITU APPROVES IMT-2000 RADIO INTERFACE SPECIFICATIONS
The International Telecommunication Union officially approved a set of terrestrial and satellite radio interface specifications for IMT-2000 at its meeting earlier this month in Helsinki.  The terrestrial radio interface specifications cover CDMA (IMT DS or wideband CDMA), TDMA (IMT MC, also known as cdma2000), FDMA (IMT TC, also called UTRA TDD or TD-SCDMA), EDGE (IMT SC) and DECT (IMTFT) technologies.  Satellite interfaces cover LEO, MEO and GEO orbits, as well as those specifically aimed at maximizing the commonality between terrestrial and satellite interfaces.

NORTEL OFFERS DSL AND DIAL ACCESS SERVICES ON SINGLE PLATFORM
Nortel Networks has enhanced its Shasta 5000 Broadband Service Node (BSN) platform to support dial access, in addition to its current DSL broadband customized services.  The solution allows ISPs to consolidate DSL and dial traffic from multiple POPs to a single tunnel.  By using Nortel's CVX 1800 access switch, enterprise networks could use the Shasta 5000 to terminate L2TP tunnels from multiple POPs, aggregate them and to provide a consolidated tunnel.  The platform could also work with other remote access servers (RAS).

Accelerated Networks, a supplier of data and voice-over-DSL and multi-service access solutions, named Charles Vogt as its vice president of worldwide sales.  Vogt was previously with Lucent Technologies and responsible for the Sprint and Sprint PCS accounts. http://www.acceleratednetworks.com/
Accelerated Networks, November 23, 1999

Accelerated Networks recently introduced a voice over DSL (VoDSL) integrated access device (IAD) designed to interoperate with any ATM-based SDSL access multiplexer (DSLAM), as well as any ATM T1 concentrator. The subscriber-located IAD multiplexes and prioritizes traffic using standard ATM AAL-1, AAL-2 or AAL-5 virtual circuits with multiple QoS levels.  It provides toll-quality voice to AAL-2-based GR-303 voice gateways using standard E.168 hardware-based echo cancellation and support for voice compression and silence suppression.  The company also offers a NEBS-compliant central office multi-service access platforms (MSAPs) used for concentration, and service POP MSAPs used to gateway into upstream voice and data networks.  In March, Unisphere Solutions, the new Siemens company, announced a $30 million equity investment and OEM deal with Accelerated Networks.
