NEWBRIDGE
ACQUIRES TIMESTEP CORP. AND NORTHCHURCH COMMUNICATIONS
Newbridge Networks announced the acquisition of two start-up
companies -- TimeStep Corp. and
NorthChurch Communications -- as part of a strategy to expand its
portfolio of differentiated IP solutions. The total cost of both
acquisitions is expected to be
TimeStep Corporation is a developer
of IPSec technology for building
secure IP-VPN solutions. It offers a suite of hardware gateways, software
clients, and central management controls. The
NorthChurch Communications is
developing a programmable edge service
router that offers 20 Gbps capacity for high-density circuit aggregation
of up to 4,000 T1s in a seven-foot rack. The NorthChurch box is designed
for wire-speed traffic management and previously
with UB Networks (acquired by Newbridge in 1996).

The Voice eXtensible Markup Language (VoiceXML) Forum released a
preliminary specification for providing
